Kasmin Brotherton

I grew up in Chillagoe and now live on the Atherton Tablelands dividing my time between my three roles – Executive Support Officer at Gulf Savannah NRM (Mareeba), Partner in our Beef cattle enterprise (Evelyn), and coaching/consulting in my own business Inner Boss (Atherton/online).

Our beef business story is fairly typical for our area, transitioning from dairy to beef due to market changes following deregulation. I am currently secretary of the Malanda Beef Plan Group, a group which was formed originally to help farmers through this transition and currently works as an advocacy and information sharing group for producers in our region.

I am driven by my curiosity, and have gathered a fair bit of experience through 30+ roles across 11 industries – including financial planning, insurance, horticulture, business administration & facilitation. I find the beef industry (or any farming) fascinating because it is so complex – every decision impacts a different area of your scope of management in different ways.

While I love the cattle and land management technical aspects, developing people is where its at for me. With my capacity building hat on, I feel I could have a role to play in interrupting intergenerational patterns and developing emotional intelligence/flexibility.
